How to Hibernate a Virtual Machine?

Tip explains how to hibernate a virtual machine running on Hyper-V.

Saving a virtual machine is similar to hibernating a physical computer. All you need to do is use Save-VM PowerShell cmdlet to hibernate VMs as explained in the commands below:

  • Save-VM -Name SQLVM
  • Get-VM -Name SQL* | Save-VM
